Played April 3 2026 9:20am (actual tee times don’t exist, shop attendant had no idea of who was playing when, the course was over run with school kids teeing off whenever). Have to say pretty disappointed in overall experience of course conditions and management from pro shop (treated like I’ve never played golf and on very good terms with himself), range guy ( very protective over range tees, wanting me to buy them! Cmon) to cart attendant ( wake up boy and attend to visitors instead of phone scrolling) . All on the rude side, not welcoming at all! $160 US each for the round for overseas visitors seems steep! For what we played. Expected highly quality from a course prospective for the value. Greens were atrocious!! (Photo of one of the greens) I would equate them to a “home diy green”… course has great potential hence the rating of 2 stars plus some great views. Don’t like to say it but perhaps the recent storms have played a role in the condition or lack of the greens… I’d be embarrassed as the green keeper. The condition of the bunkers were extremely low with grass starting to overtake with some of them. I’d look elsewhere in all honesty. Hoping other courses on the Island stack up better.

Hawaii Kai Golf Course Championship holds a rare distinction: it's the only golf course on Oahu's stunning eastern coastline. Designed in 1973 by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and William Bell, the 6,686-yard par-72 features wide fairways, large greens, and well-placed bunkers, with ocean wind playing a constant role in club selection. The Smartgolfcourses team visited the facility and checked out the pro shop, practice tees, and first-hole area. The location is spectacular and the coastal setting always delivers. Course conditions can vary, so it's worth checking ahead — but the views are consistent.

I played last week and the condition of the greens and the bunkers was very bad. I've never played in Hawaii before this round and I guess I have little t compare it to, but it was a rip off. Though the staff was friendly and the scenery was beautiful. I think it was way overpriced. The photo shows a little about what I'm talking about with the condition of the bunkers, but there are many that are much worse.

Liked this course the par 3 was a fun little side quest after my 18 on the championship course.

Based on the price it was an amazing round of golf. I got a really good deal on Golfnow.com or Teeoff; I can't remember which one. I would have been a little disappointed at the conditions of the greens and the rough if I would have paid full price even though Hawaii Kai was considerably cheaper than the nicer courses. I did spend most of my time off the fairway, so it would have been nicer if it was a little more kept up. Half way through our round we got hungry, so we went to the clubhouse. The worker was friendly enough, but they weren't serving any food at the snack shop or the restaurant! I get that it was a little later on on a Monday, but now I know to bring food!! Also the guy at the golf cart stand could have been a little more excited about his job! But with all that being said... I will definitely be going back if I can find another good rate! There are some holes with partial views of the ocean and it's a pretty scenic 18 round of golf. And when you're done, I highly recommend Sandy's Beach that is right next door! They have some really good waves and beach areas. But the customer service and the course could use a little fine tuning!
